Air-cooled gasoline engines, 5.5 to 18 HP

Gasoline engines

Single-cylinder, four-stroke OHV engines from 5.5 HP to 18 HP. They power our own generator, pump, garden and agricultural units, and ship on their own to equipment makers.

Air-cooled OHV gasoline engine with recoil start.

At a glance

The points that decide a specification most often — taken from the model data below.

One platform, eight sizes

FSH160 to FSH460 covers 5.5 HP to 18 HP on the same architecture.

Automobile unleaded fuel

Runs on standard unleaded gasoline with TCI ignition.

Recoil or electric start

Both starting systems offered across the range.

Serviceable by design

Accessible components and a common spare-parts family.

Specifying an engine: replacement fit, output choice and OEM supply

Five questions come up before a model is confirmed — what these engines substitute for, how the 5.5 HP and 6.5 HP models differ, what has to match on the shaft, which equipment they drive, and how supply to an equipment maker works.

Honda GX160 and GX200-class replacement applications

The FSH160 is 163 cc and the FSH200 is 196 cc — the two displacement classes that most GX160 and GX200 applications are built around, and the sizes most often ordered as a replacement engine for a pump, tiller or small generator whose original engine has reached the end of its life. These are Fujiheng engines, made in our own plant and sold under our own model numbers; they are not Honda engines and are not sold as such. Displacement class is where a replacement starts, not where it ends — the mounting and shaft measurements below decide whether a given unit fits.

5.5 HP and 6.5 HP gasoline engine selection

FSH160 is 163 cc at 5.5 HP / 3.1 kW and 16 kg; FSH200 is 196 cc at 6.5 HP / 3.8 kW and 17 kg. They share one platform, one fuel specification and one ignition system, and both are offered with recoil or electric start, so the choice between them is made on the driven equipment rather than on the engine. Take the input power the equipment maker specifies, add the margin that maker allows, and confirm the shaft can carry that load at the speed the equipment runs. Where the equipment is at the top of the 163 cc class the 196 cc model is the one with headroom; where weight and frame space decide, the 163 cc model is 1 kg lighter.

Engine mounting and shaft compatibility

A replacement engine is only a replacement if four measurements match: the base bolt pattern and pitch, the output shaft diameter and length including the keyway, the shaft centre height above the base, and the direction of rotation. Clearances decide the rest — fuel tank and air cleaner against the frame, the recoil housing, and where the throttle and stop controls land. The catalogue does not publish one mounting standard across the eight models, so the drawing for the model under consideration is the reference. Send the equipment it has to fit and we return that drawing for a measurement check before the order is placed.

Engines for water pumps, generators and tillers

This range powers our own water pumps, generator sets, garden machinery and agricultural machinery, which is why the same engine appears under three product families on this site. Buying the complete unit takes you to the family page and its catalogue figures; buying the engine on its own, to build into equipment of your own, stays on this page.

OEM gasoline engine supply

Engines ship on their own to equipment makers as well as powering our own units. An OEM enquiry is quoted against a drawing rather than a catalogue page, so it needs the model or the power and displacement class, the starting system, the shaft specification the machine requires, the labelling and packaging you want, and the quantity and destination. Say at enquiry stage if the engine has to carry your brand: that changes the artwork and the packing, and it is settled more cheaply before the order than after it.

Frequently asked questions

What buyers ask before specifying gasoline engines — answered from the catalogue figures on this page.

What sizes are available in the engine range?

Eight models, from the FSH160 at 163 cc and 5.5 HP to the FSH460 at 459 cc and 18 HP. Net weights run from 16 kg to 38 kg.

Do the engines run on ordinary petrol?

Yes. They run on standard automobile unleaded gasoline with TCI ignition, and are air-cooled four-stroke OHV single-cylinder units.

Is electric start available?

Recoil and electric start are both offered across the range, so the same engine can be specified either way.

Can the engines be supplied to an equipment maker?

Yes. They ship on their own to equipment makers as well as powering our own generator, pump, garden and agricultural units.

Are spare parts available?

The range shares a common spare-parts family, and spare parts and service kits are available for it.

Can a Fujiheng engine replace a Honda GX160 or GX200?

FSH160 is 163 cc and FSH200 is 196 cc, the same displacement classes as the GX160 and GX200, and both are ordered as replacement engines for pumps, tillers and small generators. They are Fujiheng engines, not Honda units. Fit is confirmed on the drawing first: bolt pattern, shaft diameter, keyway and shaft height.

What is the difference between the 5.5 HP and 6.5 HP models?

FSH160 is 163 cc at 5.5 HP / 3.1 kW and 16 kg. FSH200 is 196 cc at 6.5 HP / 3.8 kW and 17 kg. Same platform, same fuel and ignition, one step apart in displacement and output, 1 kg apart in weight.

Which engine drives your pumps, generators and tillers?

All of those families are powered from this engine range, which is why one engine can be bought either on its own or as part of a pump, generator, garden or agricultural unit. This page carries the engines; the family pages carry the complete units.

Do you supply engines to OEM equipment manufacturers?

Yes. Engines are supplied on their own to equipment makers as well as fitted to our own units. Send the power or displacement class, starting system, shaft specification, labelling and quantity, and the quotation is made against a drawing.
